There are many things that can warrant you complaining against the moving company. And you will not lose much (other than time) by complaining when you are unsatisfied with the service. Thus, the rule of the thumb would be to file a complaint every time that you believe the company didn’t behave like a good moving company Jersey City should.

Do not worry about hurting people with the complaint. You might get some sort of remedy for your situation, but you can also improve a reliable company further. If they are willing to address your complaint, then they will use it to offer even better moving services to their clients. So, they will appreciate you alerting the management of inefficient workers or policies that you ran into. That said, the most common complaints we have seen are as follows:

  • Big or small damages to the items the company is transporting due to improper care;
  • Losing the items along the way;
  • Unprofessional moving service (rude or dismissive of your needs);
  • The workers not respecting your time – being late for pick up or delivery;
  • Prolonging of services when they charge by the hour;
  • Hidden costs and fees.

File your complaint with your movers

While you can file your complaint with many places – we recommend you visit the company first. As we discussed above, a good company will appreciate you doing so and will reach out to you to address the complaint promptly. They will change up their relocation services NJ or offer some solution and an apology. If they do not offer a solution, then you can make the complaint more public and give it even more weight by contacting other organizations.

So first, you will want to start with gathering up evidence. It is essentials that you provide as much proof as you can about any wrongdoings. This is why we recommend you keep all receipts, contracts, images, recordings – anything that can give you a leg and support your complaint. When you nothing something awry, immediately record the time as well as the people involved.

Then, reach out to the moving company. You should do this directly, through the telephone. If they don’t answer, reach out through the email or check their website. Many reliable companies will have their own File Claim System that will guide you through the process and help you with filing your complaint. Remember to keep calm and rational. Keep to the facts and evidence, and do not escalate the situation.

After that, it’s time to wait for their response. Based on it, you can choose to drop the complaint or pursue it further. If they are dismissive, defensive, or even aggressive, then it is probably best not to push further, but file a complaint through other means.

Other ways to file your complaint

If things fall through with the moving company, then start looking through additional resources. Luckily, there are many that you can get behind. First, you can file a moving complaint with the American Moving & Storage Association – or the AMSA. They are here to connect clients to reliable movers, but also to help guide moving complaints further on the ladder. AMSA also has its own rules and regulations, and if a company is its member, then it needs to respect them. Otherwise, it stands a lot to lose – so they will not want to get on AMSA’s bad side.

You can also contact the Better Business Bureau – or the BBB. They want to secure good services to everyone, and thus they include moving companies in the bureau as well. This means you can address problems with any company that they sponsor through them. After you are done with your complaint, the company will be notified within 48 hours. Then, they have two weeks to reply.

Take it to the Federal level

Finally, there is the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The FMCSA is a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), and it oversees most of the companies that carry licenses in the United States. They address complaints of lost or damaged items, overcharging, or failing to deliver your items. They will also help you with complaints against the company’s licenses or insurance. The moving company has 30 days to acknowledge the claim, and then 120 days more to resolve or dispute it.
