Elizabeth, New Jersey

Elizabeth, New Jersey

When the English settlers arrived in America in the 17th century, among the many colonies they had at that time, was also a piece of land in America called New Jersey. In 1964, three Englishmen – John Baily, Daniel Denton, and Luke Watson, bought a piece of property in New Jersey that was about to have a radical change in administration for several years. The piece of property they bought was a town called Elizabethtown. However, soon after the American Revolution came and the township soon became a borough. And after the war was all settled and done, the borough soon became a city, the City of Elizabeth. A name that has remained unchanged, even after all these years.

Things to do in Elizabeth after the move

There are a lot of reasons why people move. For example, some people might move because of new job opportunities in New Jersey, some because they just want to start anew. However, some are not so lucky. A few people, for example, have to hire eviction movers NJ, because they have to leave their property due to eviction.

Whatever your reasoning may be for relocating to Elizabeth, you have to learn and adapt to your surroundings. And there is no better way to do just that by exploring all the fun activities and amenities this city has to offer.

The Mills at Jersey Garden

If shopping is what you love then you must visit the biggest outlet center in New Jersey, the Mills at Jersey Garden. It has over 200 stores, and tax-free shopping, making it the perfect place for shopping in outlets such as the Marshall’s, Sephora, Bed Bath & Beyond. However, if on the other hand, you don’t like shopping… AMC IMAX theaters are readily available here. And the best news? It’s really easy to commute there. All you need is to hop on a bus at Port Authority Bus Terminal or the Newark Liberty International Airport and you’ll be there in no time flat!

Warinanco Park

Warinanco Park is a very nice park with plenty of recreational space. You name it, they’ve got it: soccer fields, baseball fields, basketball fields, and even skate rinks in the winter!  It also has a very beautiful lake which is breathtaking in the summer. This offers a great opportunity for fitness since you can rent pedal boats and enjoy the beautiful sights of Warinanco park. There are several playgrounds and many picnic areas you can enjoy with your family and friends. So, in summary, if you are looking for a place to get some fitness in, or just to enjoy its beautiful sights don’t forget to add Warinanco Park to your moving checklist.

Boxwood Hall

So, we’ve briefly gone over the history of Elizabeth in this article. However, if you want to experience it firsthand, then we recommend that you visit Boxwood Hall. Sam Woodruff, then-mayor of Elizabeth built it in the 1750s. Located in downtown Elizabeth, the sight of Boxwood Hall takes you back in the 18th century. And it makes you imagine how its grounds and mansion looked during the Revolutionary War. However, not only does the outside impress but also it’s soaring ceilings and spacious rooms can leave you beguiled at the beauty of this structure. A definite must-see if you want to call yourself an Elizabethian.

Nugent’s Tavern

So, Elizabeth, as you might be able to tell, has a lot of amenities that can be explored. From parks, museums to shopping malls. However, what we have failed to mention is that it has awesome restaurants as well! We managed to save our best pick for last.
Nugent’s Tavern is an Irish pub and grill. However, if we said it was just that, we would be doing this fine establishment a great disfavor. This pub is filled to the brim with amazing American food and drinks. Beautiful burgers and craft beers, as well as expensive scotch and other liquor. We recommend that you visit this place during St. Patricks Day as the discounts they offer on their menu… As well as the energy in the pub during this festival is something you must experience yourself.

So in conclusion, what things should I do in Elizabeth?

Thankfully, there are a lot of amenities to visit. Elizabeth is not called the largest New Jersey city for naught. So, make sure you explore every nook and cranny, visit the Boxwood Hall, eat burgers and Nugent’s Tavern, or pasta in Valenca. And after all that hard work, make sure to visit Bodies and Faces spa center for some relaxing.
