Start preparing early when moving a fish tank to your new home

Early preparation is a key to success in any moving process. That way, if something goes wrong, you have enough time to find a solution and fix it. And when it comes to moving, there are always things that can go wrong. That’s why it’s important to hire reliable movers like Residential Movers NJ. That way, you can have peace of mind, knowing that your items are handled with care. Finding reliable movers is step one of the preparation process. Step two is finding the proper materials and supplies to pack your fish tank with. If you decide to hire packing services, then you don’t have to worry about this as packers will know exactly what your fish tank needs.

Finding the right packing materials for packing a fish tank

Before you get into the process of finding the right materials, consider finding the right movers. There are many moving companies Toms River NJ. No amount of quality packing materials is going to help if your movers aren’t careful. In order to actually move your fish tank, it’s going to be empty, of course. That requires moving your fish to another bowl and leaving the equipment and decoration out overnight to dry. After that, you’ll know how many parts of equipment you’ll have to pack, which will help you when you go shopping for packing supplies.

Moving a fish tank to your new home requires these materials

  • Bowls for fishes – There are many kinds of plastic bags and bowls that you may want to use when you’re moving, but that depends on whether you’re moving locally or long-distance.
  • Plastic containers for plants – Plants will need to be partially in the water while you’re moving. If they’re small, you can use plastic containers for them as well. If not, consider getting buckets
  • Tape – Since you’re going to be wrapping some of the items, you will need a good tape
  • Packing paper
  • Bubble plastic
  • Air-filled plastic padding (works better than other types of paddings when it comes to the fish tank)
  • Moving boxes of different sizes
  • Fishnet – If you don’t already have one, consider getting it. It will be much less stressful for your fishes to move them with it, rather than finding another way which can also potentially hurt them.
If you’re moving your fishes short-distance, then consider transporting them in a plastic bag, if not, then choose a plastic container.

Fish don’t respond well to moving, so the best solution would be to leave them to someone and buy new ones when you arrive at the destination. If that’s not an option, then consider transporting them in a plastic bag if you aren’t moving far away. Long-distance moves require plastic containers that you can look for in a pet store.

Preparing the fish and supplies before you empty the tank

Moving a fish tank isn’t a complicated process, it just requires well-thought-out logistics. Keep in mind that moving a fish tank is more about traveling with the fishes and moving them than the tank itself. We’ve tried to concentrate on the fish tank in this article, but the reality is that there is more to it since you’ll have to deal with the animals too. Make sure you use water from the tank to fill the container that your fishes will be transported in! This means that you’ll have to buy the containers that your fish will be traveling in before you empty the tank. You want to move them from container to container as least as possible! So make sure you have everything ready before you start moving your fishes.

Preparing your fish tank for the move

  • When you have taken out all of the decorations and equipment from the tank, leave them to dry overnight
  • Pack the decorations by wrapping them in the packing paper and securing the package with tape. If some of them are fragile, don’t forget to place two layers of bubble plastic before you wrap them with the packing paper. Place the items in the cardboard boxes that are a little bigger than the items themselves, but not too big. Place the fillers in the empty space between the item and the cardboard box to ensure that the item doesn’t move during the transport. You shouldn’t put so much that the item can’t move at all, leaving a little moving space is okay.
  • Take the pebbles from the bottom of the tank and place them in a quality plastic bag or a plastic box.
  • Label the boxes with the items that are fragile so that your long distance movers NJ know that they should pay special attention to those boxes
  • After you’ve dealt with all of the equipment, wipe the tank and dry it if it’s not already dry.

Packing the fish tank for a move

One of the main features of a fish tank is its fragility. That’s why people think packing a fish tank is hard. The packing process isn’t hard, but knowing how to do it is essential!
Let’s dive into the process:

  • Separate the lid from the rest of the tank
  • Wrap the lid with the bubble plastic and  secure it with the tape
  • Cut the styrofoam and place it at the bottom of a fish tank which you can later fill with towels
  • Take the whole tank and wrap it in the bubble plastic twice, then place it in the moving box which also shouldn’t be much bigger than the tank itself. Before you put the tank in the box, place the styrofoam on the bottom and place the tank on it. Make sure you place the styrofoam between the sides of the box and tank as well. If you have any additional space left, make sure you fill it with the packing paper because the aquarium shouldn’t move during the transportation. Place the styrofoam on the top and then you can also place the lid if you have enough space. If not, place the lid in the separate box following the same procedure.
  • Don’t forget to write a label on every side of a box
